Don’t Give Up

Thankfully I was born with an overdeveloped sense of perseverance. Lately it is paying off.

You may or may not know that 4 years ago, my son, was diagnosed with a rare digestive disease called EoE (Eosinophilic Esophagitis). Bluntly, it sucks.

EoE simply put, creates massive oversensitivity, especially to foods. We’re talking dropping 70 foods or so over the past 4 years…

When triggered, he experiences a broad range of symptoms including congestion, sneezing, asthma (coughing), whole body inflammation/achiness/eczema, and mild to severe gut pain.

Apparently the term “disease” equates to “no cure.”
Um, no thank you.
I decline to accept this “forever” word, (though it’s been tempting/ daunting at times).

But no thank you.

My point is, we all have Hard Sh*t to deal with in life, (whether in pursuit of a dream or navigating difficulty), and at times we might feel beaten down.

No one is exempt from challenges that seem to stretch us as far as we think we can go.

Do. Not. Give. Up.

Instead consider that we are being called to find a new way.

Try something new

The EoE specialists we’ve worked with are fabulous, however, their focus is on disease management, reducing progression and trying to ease symptoms.

I want to fix the root problem. I want Levi to heal. So I'm trying a new way.

Is it "unrealistic" to think he could heal? Maybe. Do I care? Nope.
Do I believe healing is possible? YES!

When faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, our belief and desire must be bigger than our limited thinking. We MUST practice vast willingness to get creative and try new approaches.

Are you willing?

What if in the face of your immense challenge, you were to embody willingness?

What if you could dig deeper, be brave, and shift into completely new territory?

I mean, let’s be honest, we KNOW when things aren’t working. Often times we need to choose a new route— even if it raises some eyebrows, people don’t understand or approve.

Even when we don’t know what TO do yet, we can see what NOT to do, what isn’t working. (Stopping is a step!)

How to shift?

  • Get more support (systems/people/environments/hiring)
  • Expand your knowledge
  • Explore new resources
  • Consider different perspectives

You do not have to do this alone.

There is truly no way I could've gotten through all of this on my own. Friends, family, therapy, occupational therapy, Functional Nutritionist (new!), experts, podcasts, classes, YouTube videos and audio books!

To discover new solutions we often need to shake things up.

We need to expose ourselves to new information, perspectives, possibilities, experiences, and people.

Soon we will become aware of avenues we never knew existed.

Will you have to stretch beyond your comfort zone? Oh yes, you bet!
Give yourself permission to start small--one new learning at a time.

You got this!

And if you need a little encouragement, here’s my favorite go to song when I need a boost.
I dare you not to dance.
