I'll be totally honest. Summer is really challenging for me.
Some folks are SO excited for summer and just "chilling out."
Well....chilling out is not part of my highly active kiddo's paradigm unless I'm willing to let him have 6 hours of screen time a day.
I'm not. 🥴
As a result, this HSP gal can get off kilter in the summer at times.
( HSP=Highly Sensitive Person)
It requires me to up my game to rebalance and be more gentle with myself.
Here's what can get me sideways:
√ Transitions- new (lack of consistent) schedule, new season
√ Constant demands when my beloved boy is home (and simply more "sounds"- bouncing balls, singing, fort building, screen time "discussions")
√ Loss of time- for self, business, family management, homecare
√ Loss of sense of freedom to go when and where I need to
√ An active kiddo who is grappling for "tween" independence
Can you relate?
Am I my Best Self at these times?
Um, no.
So on my exceptionally award-winningly challenging days I need more rebalancing tools.
Here are some tools I try to reach for:
- The belief: "I'm doing my best" (it just feels better!)
- Let go of what I can't control and breathe, breathe, breathe.
- Give myself lots of Grace and be more gentle (with self and others)
- Reality check: Summer has a totally different rhythm than the school year. I must soften, flex, adapt.
- Take one day at a time. (Each morning is a new beginning.)
- Insert liberal doses of Self and Soul Care whenever possible (5 minutes matter)
With these tools, I have a much better chance of creating positive experiences AND happy Summer memories!
